Dear living history Participants Vincennes State Historic Sites invite you and your living history group to participate in the annual Muster on the Wabash. This War of 1812 encampment; will take place on the first weekend in November. (During the bicentennial year of 2011 the event will be moved to September) The event will be held at the site of Historic Fort Knox, three miles north of Vincennes, Indiana. Fort Knox is the location where Indiana Territory Governor William Henry Harrison mustered his troops prior to the march to what would become known as the Battle of Tippecanoe. The event hours are 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Sunday. A battle reenactment will be conducted each day. Early set-up on Friday is encouraged. The event covers the period 1790 - 1815. All camp or trade goods should reflect this time. All non-period items should be hidden during the time the event is open to the public. This is a juried event. U.S. and British regulars, Militia, Woodland Indians, French habitants, and citizens are invited to participate. As we prepare for the upcoming bicentennial we will be striving to improve the camps and their appearance. Please be aware of how your camp looks and keep non period items hidden. (more information about non-period items click here .) Safety is a major issue with all involved. No weapons will be loaded in camp. No weapons will be fired anywhere without he site director's permission. There will be no ramming of charges except for cannon. Only paper cartridges will be used. There will be no gluing, stapling, or waxing of cartridges. All edged weapons must have a scabbard or sheath. For living historians, this is an excellent opportunity to educate the public on a frequently misunderstood period of our nation's history. You are encouraged to engage the public and share your interest. Water, straw, wood, and port-a-johns are provided by the site. Powder is provided for cannon only. There will be a meal provided on Saturday evening. This is a state historic site, all alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. An application for registration directions to the site, or vendor application may be found at the links above left. The application must be returned for your group to participate. If you have any questions or concerns, please call David Weaver, Richard Day, or Bruce Beesley at 812-882-7422, or e-mail at Vincennes State Historic Sites We look forward to seeing you in November Participant Application (click here) Sincerely Bruce Beesley |
