The Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous will celebrate twenty-five years of providing exceptional living history to event visitors. This Revolutionary War reenactment offers a chance to learn about our country's history and have loads of fun at the same time. Approximately 500 Revolutionary war soldiers will camp on the Grounds of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park. A huge limestone, marble and granite memorial commemorates the accomplishments of Clark and his men. Soldiers present represent actual units that served during the war for American Independence. You will find British and German forces on one side of the battlefield while Continental (or American) and French Forces fill the opposite side of the field. These battles take place twice each day of the event. Some soldiers will be uniformed while others represent militia units. Militia units were comprised of local citizens who were ready to defend their homes and country. Their ability to respond quickly earned them the name of Minutemen.

You will also want to visit the merchants on the grounds. One could buy everything from beads to breeches, from gourds to pottery. You can watch many demonstrators present a glimpse of life from the past. Watch a potter or a woodworker as they demonstrate their craft. Also on the grounds you will enjoy the variety of entertainment. Fiddle, tin whistle, and even bagpipe offer pleasing sounds for the ears. Plays, magic shows, games, and even some bad Shakespeare will please visitors of all ages.

By now you are tired and hungry. Many vendors offer mouth-watering food to satisfy even the hardiest 18th century appetite. Try a turkey leg, corn on the cob or even fried mushrooms.

After lunch cross Willow Street and visit with the soldiers camped on the park grounds. These soldiers spend the weekend camped here in their tents. Here you can talk with the soldiers and see their uniforms and equipment up close. Learn about their life and the Revolutionary war. See the cannon, musket and rifle up close. You may even find some Indians camped on these grounds. Don't forget to finish the day with an 18th century tradition of closing colors. This retiring of the flags (also called colors) for the day takes place in front of the Clark Memorial.

All of the people who organize and run the Rendezvous volunteer their time to the project. The goal is to offer a quality event that provides fun and education for the entire family.
